Cherished Soap Opera Stars Who Passed Away In 2019

The past year brought many great soap opera storylines and some new breakout stars. But it also brought with it the passing of some soap legends. As the year draws to a close, The Soap Scoop remembers the cherished and much-loved daytime stars who passed away in 2019.

Luke Perry

The iconic Luke Perry, who starred as Dylan on Beverley Hills 90210 and most recently in the Netflix hit Riverdale, got his acting start on the now cancelled soaps Another World and Loving. He passed away on March 4 due to a stroke. Perry was 52 years old.

Kristoff St. John

Young and The Restless (Y&R) fans and cast members were in shock in early February, when news broke that Kristoff St. John, who played Neil Winters, had passed away on February 3 at the age of 52.  The Y&R filmed a series of tribute episodes to St. John that aired in April 2019.

Jed Allan

Jed Allan, known for his starring role on the now cancelled Santa Barbara, passed away on March 10 at the age of 84. The actor had also appeared on General Hospital (GH), Port Charles and Days Of Our Lives (DOOL).

Susan Bernard

Susan Bernard, who had played Beverly Cleveland Fairchild on GH, passed away from a heart attack on June 21. She was 71 years old.

Shelley Morrison

Actress Shelley Morrison, who played Mrs. Ramirez on GH, died of heart failure on December 1. Morrison was probably best known for playing Rosario Salazar on Will & Grace.

William Wintersole

William Wintersole was known to Y&R fans as Mitchell Sherman, Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) lawyer. He passed away on November 5.

Brian Turk

Brian Turk, who played Bo Crowell on GH, passed away from brain cancer on September 13. The actor was 49 years old.

David Hedison

Daytime alumni David Hedison, who played Arthur Hendricks on the Y&R, passed away on July 18. The actor had also appeared on Another World, Dynasty and The Colbys.

Arte Johnson

Comedian Arte Johson , who played Finian O’Toole on GH in 1991, died of a heart attack on July 3. He guest-starred on many television shows in the 1970s and 1980s, including Fantasy Island.
